In 2010, the counterinsurgency strategy, COIN, was in full swing in Kandahar, Afghanistan. In Dand province, American and Canadian soldiers were being airdropped into remote areas like airborne anthropologists, to map out local tribes, whereas up in Zhari, the 101st Airborne was taking the Taliban head on. This was the new US strategy. Only time would tell if it would work.
